Xterra Wetsuit Review

XTERRA Men's Vortex Triathlon Wetsuit Review

Today I am going to be reviewing the XTERRA  Vortex Triathlon Wetsuit, which is the wetsuit I use personally in any swim that USAT or WTC allows. But assuming you are doing a wetsuit legal Tri, and in need of a suit, then you have come to the right place!

  • Great flexibility that doesn't restrict swim stroke
  • Incredible performance and comfort in the water
  • High Quality Suit that lasts for seasons
  • stethoscope
    Buoyancy improvements are very noticeable
  • A bit pricey for an entry level suit
  • Cannot be used for pool swims long term
  • Tight fit can take some getting used to in transition

All in all this suit is amazing! I have used this suit for a few seasons now and its performance, quality and feel are unmatched. If you are looking for a great wetsuit to take you through training and through many seasons to come then look no further.

Xterra Vortex Performance

I have tried a few wetsuits in my day both in and out of Triathlon and I have yet to find one that matches the Xterra wetsuits in terms of performance. The Vortex is at the top of the performance list and you can truly feel that as soon as you put it on and get in the water. If you are especially used to swimming in jammers or speedos the added buoyancy that this provides will be a game changer for you, and likely to shave a few seconds off each 400m.

Additionally the Xterra Vortex has great flexibility to the suit and does not restrict any of your swim strokes. I am able to get a full range of motion on my freestyle, breath and back strokes without feeling any hindrance or pull from the suit. This is great for long marathon swims and Ironman's since you are changing through strokes generally several times.

Xterra Vortex in Transition

The Xterra Vortex lost a half a point for me in transition 1 due just to it being a bit difficult to get used to at first. The suit is incredibly snug if fit correctly and as such if you are not used to this it can cost you a second or two while you adapt to taking the suit off properly and quickly.

This is not a fault of the suit, more a adjustment period you should prepare for before your first race in the Xterra Vortex.

Xterra Vortex Comfort

This is an incredibly comfortable wetsuit. You will notice this once it is on instantly.

I touched on this before but the full range of motion that you still have for an incredibly tight fit is great! I can also vouch personally for swimming for hours in this suit without chaffing which is another great protection and comfort layer that the Xterra Vortex brings you in the open ocean swim.

Xterra Vortex Quality

The quality for this wetsuit is unparalleled in my book. When I first purchased this suit it was a bit of a hard buy, since I had never spent much money on a wetsuit. However after having this suit through several seasons, training in it almost daily and it having zero wear-and-tear, well this might be one of the best Triathlon buys I have made. Especially for bang for you buck!

Xterra Vortex Overall

Overall I cannot speak highly enough of the Xterra Vortex. I know that this is a suit that will probably last me for several years to come, it has great performance and has helped me shave seconds off of my Sprint swims and minutes off of mile plus swims.

If you are new to Triathlon or are just looking for a new wetsuit to get you through this season and many more to come then the Xterra Vortex is really the best suit you can get. I highly recommend you pick one up and you will not regret it!
